Industry Open House 2016:
The UBC SEG Student Chapter, in collaboration with the MDRU, held the second annual Student-Industry Open House on Wednesday February 10th, 2016 from 2-6 pm in the atrium of the Earth Sciences Building. Last year’s event provided a unique networking opportunity for students and industry participants, something we successfully recreated with this year’s event. The open house once again featured a poster session where students had the opportunity to present their research. Industry sponsors this year were Almaden Minerals, Anglo American, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC), British Columbia Geological Survey (BCGS), and Reflex. We were also happy to welcome Archer Cathro & Associates Ltd. as a participant.

Industry Open House 2015:
The UBC SEG Student Chapter, in collaboration with the Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU), held its first ever Industry Open House event on the 27th November between 2 and 6 pm in the atrium of the Earth Science Building on UBC Campus. The event was attended by 10 geoscience companies and organizations: Almaden Minerals Ltd., Anglo American Exploration Canada Ltd., APEG BC, the BC Geological Survey, MDRU, Silver Wheaton, HDI, SRK, Geoscience BC and Reflex. The event was held to give students, particularly undergraduates, the opportunity to interact with members of industry, make new contacts and get a feel for what it takes to become a professional geoscientist. As well as the Open House, there was also a building tour of the new Earth Sciences Building and a short poster presentation session where undergraduate and graduate students spoke of their current research. The Open House was attended by over 100 undergraduate and graduate students and it is hoped that it will become an annual Student Chapter event based on the success of this year.
